Aneuploidy Screening

Aneuploidy screening at GIVF includes 8 chromosome-specific probes aimed at the most common chromosome abnormalities found in early embryos. These are probes for chromosomes 13, 15, 16, 18, 21, 22, X and Y.

Gender Selection

Gender selection at GIVF can be performed using either the full aneuploidy panel above or using the gender selection probe panel with chromosome-specific probes for X, Y and 21. This second panel allows the patient to choose the gender of the embryos transferred and guard against Down syndrome.

Translocations

Most chromosome rearrangements, including reciprocal translocations, Robertsonian translocations, and chromosome inversions and deletions, can be tested using PGD. Please contact the laboratory with the specific chromosome rearrangement details before undertaking the PGD cycle. Genetic counseling by our trained counselors is recommended for these cycles.

Single Gene Disorders

Specific molecular diagnosis for cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy, sickle cell disease and Huntington^s disease will be available in 2005. This testing is for patients that either carry or are affected with the particular disease and wish to be certain that their children do not inherit the mutation. Genetic counseling by our trained counselors is recommended for these cycles.
