Healthy Babies, Healthy Lives.

We are Fairfax Diagnostics—proud innovators in molecular diagnostics and reproductive genetics with over 38 years of trusted service in the field of reproductive medicine, and we are pleased to offer your clinic preimplantation genetic testing or PGT.

What is Preimplantation Genetic Testing?

Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) is a reproductive technology comprised of three genomic assays used in concert with in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles to increase the potential for a healthy and successful pregnancy and delivery. The suite of PGT assays is used (1) to determine that an embryo has the correct chromosomal content prior to transfer, avoiding embryos with chromosomal gains or losses called aneuploidy, (2) to detect inherited single-gene disorders, or (3) structural chromosome rearrangements and/or unbalanced translocations.

PGT-M

(monogenic disorders)

PGT for monogenic disorders (PGT-M) is a reproductive technology used with an IVF cycle for at-risk couples to determine that an embryo used for transfer does not contain an inherited genetic disorder, thus ensuring that the disorder is not passed on to children. PGT-M is performed with PGT for aneuploidy (PGT-A) to select embryos for transfer that are free of genetic disease as well as chromosomally normal (euploid).

PGT-A

(aneuploidy)

PGT for aneuploidy (PGT-A) determines if an embryo has the correct number of chromosomes prior to implantation in the uterus. Chromosomes are structures within cells that contain the genetic material called DNA which is important for healthy development. For couples undergoing IVF, PGT-A can significantly increase the chance of a pregnancy and birth of a healthy child by transferring only chromosomally normal embryos.

PGT-SR

(structural rearrangements)

PGT for structural rearrangements (PGT-SR) is a reproductive technology used with an IVF cycle for couples that carry structural chromosome rearrangements called translocations. PGT-SR can identify embryos for transfer that contain balanced chromosomal content thus avoiding pregnancies carrying a severe chromosomal abnormality.

Why PGT at Fairfax Diagnostics?

We derive our success from a panel of expert clinical and molecular geneticists who have pioneered molecular genetic methods using the state-of-the-art technology to achieve accurate and timely results.

Years in Service

In partnership with Genetics and IVF Institute, Fairfax Diagnostics has over 38 years of experience in the field of assisted reproductive technology.

PGT-M for Single-Gene Disorders

Our team at Fairfax Diagnostics has extensive expertise in performing more complex PGT for monogenic disorders (PG-M) including test design and validation prior to clinical use. PGT-M at Fairfax Diagnostics uses 3 levels of molecular resolution custom designed for each at-risk couple and can be designed for any case with a lab confirmed finding.

In House Expertise

We derive our success from a panel of expert clinical and molecular geneticists who have pioneered molecular genetic methods using the latest technology to achieve accurate and timely results.

Technology

Fairfax Diagnostics uses high resolution Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies powered by Illumina’s VeriSeq protocol and Blue Fuse Data Analysis.

Our Services

Our vast experience means that we can offer you services from an extraordinarily talented group of laboratory experts, physicians, and genetic counselors, some of whom are former faculty members at leading universities and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

PGT - Lab

The PGT Laboratory at Fairfax Diagnostics performed its first clinical cycle in March 1993. Since then, our staff has performed more than 6,000 PGT cycles for hundreds of couples at our laboratory in suburban Washington, D.C. and more recently for assisted reproductive technology (ART) centers around the U.S.

Embryology Basics

Embryos created using standard IVF procedures are grown in the embryology laboratory until they become an early embryo called a blastocyst. The blastocyst is subsequently biopsied to remove a few cells from its outer layer for PGT analysis. Embryo biopsy is thus a critical procedure requiring skilled, well-trained embryologists to provide high quality, intact cells.

Genetic Counseling for PGT

Fairfax Diagnostics has a dedicated team of certified genetic counselors as well as clinical and molecular geneticists at hand to help you decide which PGT test is right for you and your patients. We offer complimentary post-test genetic counseling for PGT-A, PGT-SR, and PGT-M.
